What
do a quiet Brisbane lad, Oxford University, and an interesting tendency
to dress up and sing G&S tunes have in common?
After 30 years on, around, behind and under the stage
in Brisbane, Rodney Wolff knows theatre inside out.
Rodney was
stage director and music director of Lickety-Split's inaugural
production, The Full Monty. He has directed
several shows for the Ignatians Inc, Ocean Theatre Company, Oxford Univ
G&S Society, Arts Theatre, such as Oliver!,
The Full Monty (the Queensland premiere), The
Mikado, There Goes the Bride,
Habeas Corpus, Iolanthe
and The Pirates of Penzance.
Rodney has been musical director of those shows above
which are musical, as
well as Fiddler on the Roof, Singin'
in the Rain (the Queensland premiere), Company,
The Boy Friend, Brigadoon
and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.
He has worked at such venues as the Oxford Playhouse,
the Oxford Holywell Music Rooms (Britain's oldest purpose-built music
venue), the Cremorne Theatre, the Queensland Conservatorium Theatre, the
Schonell Theatre and Arts Theatre.
Rodney is a professor in the Faculty of Business at the
Queensland University of Technology, specialising in statistics
and econometrics. He has brought his business and managerial skills
to theatre administration, most recently having
served as treasurer and as administrative director (in honorary
capacities) of Arts Theatre, 2004-6. Through his financial and managerial
skills, Arts turned around from a decade of loss-making performance to
operating at a surplus.
He has been trained in pianoforte, voice, and ballroom
and Latin dancing.
